TELL US ABOUT YOUR STUDY/PRACTICE?

I'm a painter. My paintings are 'quiet' snapshots of suburban and inner city life. I gravitate towards scenes that have a pre-existing painterly abstract quality and create them in watercolour and oil.

WHERE DO YOU FIND INSPIRATION?

I'm fascinated by suburbia at the moment...Mundane houses with unexpectedly good gardens are my current inspiration. America does it well. I'm in America and taking a lot of photos of the suburban sprawl in L.A. and N.Y.C, and a few in the Nevada desert.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR PRACTICE

It is wide-ranging and sporadic. My focus is painting, done in acrylic washes. I also make garments, knit, sketch firemen from saucy calendars and this morning I painted flowers on our toilet with my flat mate. Right now I am working towards setting up an art-based charity, whereby artists can donate prints to sell, the proceeds of which will go towards those in need. The project is somewhat mysterious and infantile at the moment.

IF YOU COULD WORK WITH ANYBODY IN THE WORLD WHO WOULD IT BE?

That is a difficult question, as there are so many brains to pick I couldn't possibly choose one! Some options might be Tristram Stuart, Yayoi Kusama or whoever invented NeverWet.

THE LAST BOOK I READ WAS?

The Violent Bear it Away by Flannery O'Connor - it was fantastic!

TELL US ABOUT YOUR STUDY/PRACTICE?

I am currently in my third year at Elam, where I study Fine Art. In terms of my conceptual practice, I am intrigued by souvenirs of a personal history and the way that material treatment of these objects or memories can negotiate their position from private to a public sphere. I'm interested in the idea of the intangible becoming tangible and the non-existent or no-longer-existent regaining its physicality.

WHO ARE YOUR TOP INFLUENTIAL ARTISTS AT THE MOMENT?

I've been looking at painters such as Raoul de Keyser and Marlene Dumas, as well as Auckland based artist, Nick Austin. I also have a huge art-crush on Simon Starling, who's installation and performance works are concerned with the history of objects in time and place; a notion which I feel resonates within my practice.
