Sylvester Sessions #74

Sylvester Sessions

Sadie Whelan

Auckland, New Zealand

What do you do?

In general I chill real hard. This year I'm beginning a Bachelor of Arts at Auckland University and I also do a bit of modelling on the side.

What do you have planned for the future?

Optimizing wonderful opportunities and lots of travelling.

Tell us about some things that you find inspiring.

My family and all my beautiful, creative and insanely talented friends.

What are you currently reading/listening to/ watching?

I'm currently reading Eileen by Ottessa Moshfegh, which was the runner up for the Man Booker Prize last year. I'm listening to Fat Freddys Drop, the Raga Twins and Sampa the Great because I just got home from Splore and am deep in the reminisce. I am rewatching The Wire which is the best series I have ever watched about the Baltimore drug scene.

What do you like to do to relax?

I like to lie in the sun and read, chill with my friends, pat my cat, garden, paint/draw/write. Basically just do whatever makes me happy at the time.

Place you are happiest?

New Zealand, the land and sea are incredibly beautiful and I'm so privileged to live here. I'm happiest everywhere and anywhere in this country.

What is the best thing about living in Auckland?

My friends and the prolific creative scene. Also the West Coast.

Best advice you have ever been given?

Fake it till you make it!
